Guitar Tutor in Weetwood
Learning the guitar should be inspiring, enjoyable, and tailored to you and that’s exactly what I offer here in Weetwood. I’m Huw, a professional musician and qualified guitar tutor with a degree in Popular Music from Leeds College of Music and a master’s in composition.
I teach students of all ages, from complete beginners picking up a guitar for the first time to advanced players wanting to develop their style or explore composition. As a fully DBS checked tutor, I work with individuals and small groups, offering flexible lessons either in person here in Weetwood or online.
My approach is all about creating a learning experience that suits you, whether that means exploring your favourite songs or working towards formal grades. Every lesson is built around your goals so you can progress at a pace that feels comfortable and rewarding.
Inspiring a True Passion For Music
My years of playing guitar have shaped the way I teach, blending practical skills with the creativity and excitement that make music so rewarding. I’ve seen first hand how students thrive when they genuinely enjoy their lessons, and I’m proud to say my pupils have achieved a 100% pass rate in their exams.
Right from the first lesson, I focus on understanding how you learn best and what you want to achieve. Whether your goals are to master a particular style, write your own songs, or simply play for the joy of it, I’ll design lessons that bring out your strengths and keep you motivated.
From rock and pop to jazz, folk, blues, and beyond, I cover an extensive range of genres, all while helping you develop your confidence, technique, and musical voice. My aim is simple: to help every student unlock their full potential and enjoy the journey every step of the way.

I teach freelance within schools such as
Robert Ogden (National Autistic Society) and frequently run ensembles on behalf of
Rock School UK. I also run guitar skills and ensemble groups at
Leeds Junior Conservatoire. I also teach online, meaning I can work with people all around the world. Feel free to get in touch wherever you are.

My Tutoring Testimonials
RIKA

“Huw is a very thorough tutor. In the 6 months we have had lessons I have seen a great improvement in my guitar skills. I have gained confidence in playing bar chords and trying difficult pieces which I haven’t been able to do with other tutors. Even when busy, he is still super flexible and will always help work around your schedule! Huw is very professional and a great tutor.”

“My daughter has loved having electric guitar lessons with Huw over the past two years. He is a fabulous teacher; he is patient, extremely knowledgeable and his lessons are always so well planned and structured. He is clearly very passionate about music and this is evident in his lessons and teaching style. With Huw’s support and guidance, my daughter was delighted to achieve her Grade 8 in electric guitar with a Distinction, at age 14! Thank you so much Huw.”
Rob Buttery
Teacher at National Autistic Society
“Huw has been working with 2 of my students for over a year now here at Robert Ogden School in Barnsley. They are 17- and 18- year-olds who are diagnosed with autism and have some learning difficulties. They initially started the sessions to gain a new skill as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award but enjoyed their time with Huw so much that they have carried on. Huw is excellent with both students who are very different. He is patient and considerate to their individual needs and has developed really good professional relationships during their guitar sessions. The students have progressed so well over such a short time and are even practising at home to impress their families as well. I would highly recommend Huw taking students for guitar lessons any day. Thanks again.”
